Abstract:
This study investigated the availability and utilization of material resources for teaching business education courses in colleges of education in North-West, Nigeria. The population of the study was 318 which comprised all business education lecturers from the nine colleges of education in North-West, Nigeria that offer business education. Purposive sampling technique was used to select four colleges of education from the nine colleges of education in the North Western zone of Nigeria, to participate in the study; 150 business education lecturers from the four colleges of education selected participated in the study. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The data collected for the research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The null hypotheses were tested using independent samples t-test at 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed that equipment and supplies were barely available for teaching business education courses in colleges of education (Mean = 2.16, SD = 0.75). The study equally revealed that there was no significant differences between the mean ratings of male and female business education lecturers on the extent of lecturers' utilization of equipment and supplies for teaching business education courses (t123 = 0.643, P>0.05). It was therefore concluded that necessary equipment and supplies were not moderately or highly available in colleges of education and this would affect the effective teaching of business education courses. Based on the findings, the study recommended that the management of colleges of education should moderately stock the school and departmental libraries with equipment and supplies; the school management should regularly check and supervise how the equipment and supplies are being used to educate and learn business education.
