Abstract:
: Diagnostic laparoscopy with methylene blue test is a gold standard for the evaluation of tubal patency. We report the observation of a woman followed for secondary infertility who presented a bluish discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes and nails with oxygen desaturation at 79% following intracervical injection of methylene blue during laparoscopy for tubal infertility. The patient was hospitalized for 48 hours in the intensive care unit and had a methemoglobinemia assay showing a rate of 7.3%, thus confirming the diagnosis of methemoglobinemia. The follow-up was simple with normalization of saturation and normalization of biological assessment. In the light of our case and in the light of the literature, we draw the attention of practitioners to this rare complication but can in certain cases jeopardize the patient's vital prognosis.
