Abstract:
This study explores the potential for developing community-based Agri-tourism in Barangay Parola, Kalaklan, Olongapo City, a coastal community historically known for its fishing heritage and symbolic lighthouse. With globalization influencing even small local economies, Parola has begun integrating modern livelihood strategies and sustainable tourism initiatives to enhance economic resilience. The study aims to profile the community, identify its livelihood conditions, challenges, and development needs, and propose strategies for inclusive Agri-tourism development. Using a descriptive survey research design, data were gathered from 43 respondents through structured questionnaire focusing on demographics, livelihood sources, tools used, and perceived needs. Results revealed that the majority of residents are engaged in farming and fishing, with strong interest in Agri-tourism activities, livelihood training, and environmental programs. However, limited access to resources, tools, and training remains a challenge. Respondents expressed a high willingness to participate in community gardening and volunteer initiatives, reflecting strong communal support for sustainable development projects. The results suggest that establishing a Community Garden Hub and Agri-Tourism Program in Barangay Parola can promote inclusive growth, local empowerment, and environmental stewardship. Such an initiative aligns with the city's vision for sustainable tourism and rural-urban integration, bridging traditional livelihoods with modern opportunities through capacity-building, market access, and eco-friendly practices.
