Abstract:
This study investigated the relationship between stress management and employees' productivity in construction companies in Rivers State. The primary aim was to determine how stress management influences employees' productivity within these organizations. Stress management served as the predictor variable, represented by workload and role ambiguity, while employees' productivity was the criterion variable. The study was grounded in Lazarus and Folkman's Transactional Model of Stress and Coping. A survey research design was adopted, appropriate for gathering opinions from a large population and drawing inferences. Primary data was collected through questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient with the aid of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0. The results revealed a significant relationship between stress management and employees' productivity in construction companies in Rivers State. Based on these findings, the study recommends that construction companies establish clear yet flexible role definitions. While some role ambiguity may foster adaptability and creativity, it is essential to define boundaries and expectations. Employers should provide clarity where necessary while allowing autonomy, especially in dynamic project environments. Additionally, construction firms should implement structured workload management systems. Managers should regularly assess workloads to ensure equitable distribution and prevent burnout. The use of task-tracking tools, manpower planning, and time audits is encouraged to identify and address overload situations effectively.
