Abstract:
Inter-professional education (IPE) is a pedagogical approach that brings together learners from two or more professional disciplines to engage in shared learning, with the stipulated aim of improving collaboration and enhancing health and social care outcomes. The integration of IPE into clinical practices is vital for enhancing collaborative care and improving patient outcomes. This paper reviewed literature on the underlying rationale for IPE and its integration into workplace learning and made recommendations for future action plans for inter-professional education in clinical nursing practice. The study concluded that the future of IPE in nursing relies on deeper integration into clinical education, with strong support from policy, faculty, and leadership. It must be rooted in real-world practice and reflect the challenges nurses face every day. With the right planning, IPE can help nurses develop the skills needed for effective teamwork and improved patient care. The study outlined some recommendations for future action plans for inter-professional education in clinical nursing practice which include the use technology, faculty development, policies, team-based care models, organizational culture, evaluation, equity and cultural awareness.
