Abstract:
The study investigated the impact of employee deviant behavior on the organizational performance of oil and gas companies in Rivers State, Nigeria. An existing review of literature related to employee deviant behavior and organizational performance was conducted. The literature review focused on the theoretical, conceptual, and empirical aspects. The study uses a cross-sectional survey research approach. The research population included one hundred and fifty (150) managers and supervisors recruited from the human resource departments of six (6) oil and gas companies in Rivers State, Nigeria. A census study was conducted. After data cleaning, 112 copies of questionnaire were finally used for data analysis data was evaluated and the result suggested a significant negative behavior between the dimensions of employee deviant behavior (personal aggressiveness, production deviance and property deviance) and organizational performance of oil and gas enterprises in Rivers State, Nigeria. The research indicates that, Persistent deviant behaviors decrease workplace harmony, damage employee morale, and hamper the attainment of organisational goals. To minimize personal antagonism and build a more respected workplace that increases overall performance, the research proposes that oil and gas businesses undertake frequent training for staff on emotional intelligence, dispute resolution, and workplace etiquette.
