Abstract:
This study examines the impact of religious movements on social justice and human rights, highlighting their historical and contemporary roles in promoting moral legitimacy, challenging systemic oppression, and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. Grounded in Social Movement Theory, this research analyzes the ways in which faith-based organizations mobilize resources, frame moral narratives, and leverage collective identity to promote social change. Through a qualitative analysis of secondary data, including content and documentary evidence, this study demonstrates the profound influence of religious movements on social justice and human rights discourse. The findings suggest that religious movements have been instrumental in shaping moral and legal conceptions of rights, promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation, and advocating for peace, equity, and sustainability. However, challenges persist, including religious rivalry, intolerance, and commercialization, which can undermine the moral authority of religious institutions. The study recommends promoting interfaith dialogue and collaboration, prioritizing moral integrity and accountability, adapting to changing social contexts, and fostering partnership and support between faith-based organizations and governments. By working together, religious movements and governments can build a more just and equitable society that respects human dignity and promotes social cohesion. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex and dynamic relationship between religion and human rights, highlighting the potential for faith-based movements to drive positive change and promote a culture of respect for human rights.
