Abstract:
The rapid adoption of social media among adolescents has raised concerns about its effects on mental health, including anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. This study investigates how different social media platforms shape these psychological outcomes among secondary school adolescents in Wakiso District, Uganda. Using a mixed-method approach, quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews are employed to capture both numerical trends and lived experiences. Findings indicate significant associations between social media usage patterns and mental health indicators, highlighting the nuanced role of social media as both a source of connection and stress. The study underscores the need for targeted mental health interventions and digital literacy programs tailored to adolescent users.
