Title: Public Administration and Economic Development in Kampala Capital City Authority

Abstract:
The study examined the relationship between public administration and economic development in Kampala Capital City Authority. It was guided by objectives which were to examine the relationship between urban planning and economic development in Kampala Capital City Authority, to establish the relationship between public resource management and economic development and to determine the relationship between accountability and economic development. The study adopted a descriptive correlational research design backed by mixed methods approach. A sample size of 222 respondents were used out of which 157 participated in the study. Simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used in selecting respondents and data collection was done using questionnaires and interview guide. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences and thematic analysis was done for qualitative data. The correlation analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship between urban planning and economic development, with a Pearson coefficient of 0.502 (p<0.01). additionally, the correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between public resource management and economic development, with Pearson's r=0.541 (p<0.01). The study established a positive relationship between accountability and economic development, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.462. The study concluded that a significant positive relationship was established between urban planning and economic development. The findings underscored that efficient mobilization, allocation, and utilization of public resources are vital for enhancing economic outcomes. Furthermore, a positive relationship between accountability and economic development was established, indicating that higher accountability correlated with better economic outcomes. The study recommended that KCCA leadership sustain this vision by regularly reviewing and updating strategic plans through stakeholder consultations. The study recommended that KCCA strengthen performance monitoring by integrating digital tracking systems. More still, it is recommended that KCCA improve communication by publishing annual resource mobilization strategies. Additionally, the study recommended that KCCA institutionalize a performance feedback loop where monitoring reports directly inform policy adjustments.
