Abstract:
This study examines the role of student teaching assistants in improving the numeracy skills of elementary school students at MI Hasanuddin Surabaya through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Teaching Assistant Program. The program was implemented from August to November 2025 and involved undergraduate students from Airlangga University. The research applied a descriptive qualitative method through observation, documentation, and reflection of learning activities. The findings indicate that the teaching assistants contributed significantly to enhancing students' mathematical understanding and numeracy skills through interactive, contextual, and project-based learning approaches. The implementation of innovative teaching strategies, including the use of visual aids and outdoor learning activities, increased students' engagement, confidence, and performance in mathematics. Evaluation results showed an improvement in students' average mathematics scores, confirming the effectiveness of this program in fostering active learning and supporting the quality of education at MI Hasanuddin Surabaya.
