Abstract:
Teacher research capability has gained recognition as an essential component of professional practice and educational reform. In the Philippine context, the Department of Education highlights teacher-led research in the Basic Education Research Agenda; however, teachers continue to face barriers such as workload, limited methodological training, and lack of institutional support. This study investigated the relationship between teachers' demographic profiles (age, gender, educational attainment, length of service, subject taught, and teaching position) and their research capability across four dimensions: research knowledge and skills, data collection and analysis, application of research findings, and research confidence and attitude. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, involving junior high school teachers from Sagad High School. Data were collected through a validated and reliable survey instrument and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's rho correlation, complemented by thematic analysis of teachers' expectations for research capacity-building programs. Findings revealed that certain demographic factors, particularly educational attainment and length of service, significantly influenced aspects of research capability. The study concludes that targeted extension programs, particularly those led by graduate schools, are necessary to strengthen teachers' research competencies and foster a stronger research culture in the basic education sector.
