Abstract:
This study investigated the relationship between strategic human resource management (SHRM) practices and organisational performance of manufacturing firms in Rivers State. SHRM practices were assessed using internal career opportunities and result-oriented appraisal, while organisational performance was measured by organisational agility. A quantitative cross-sectional research design was adopted, and data were obtained from a structured closed-ended questionnaire administered to a sample of manufacturing firms. Spearman Rank Order Correlation was employed to analyse the hypotheses. Findings revealed that internal career opportunities and result-oriented appraisal significantly enhanced organisational performance as proxied by organisational agility. It was concluded that internal career opportunities and result-oriented appraisal were vital for agility having broad and significant impact on performance. The study recommended that manufacturing firms should institutionalise structured career development and outcome-focused appraisal systems.
