Abstract:
This study examined the relationship between employee normative commitment and organizational performance of sterling bank in Delta State, Nigeria. The study employed a quantitative research method, the cross-sectional survey research design was adopted with focus on the hypotheses testing research design. The population of the study was forty five staff of the sterling bank branch in Delta State, Nigeria. This population was fully studied as a census study. Primary data; questionnaire of 45 copies were distributed to the employees, only 41 copies were used for the study after coding, editing and data cleansing. The data that was generated were analysed with both univariate and bivariate statistics, the Pearson Product moment correlation was used for the analysis of data with the aid of the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), version 25.0. The finding of the study indicates that, employee normative commitment significantly relates with organizational performance and its measures; productivity and customer service. It was concluded that employee normative commitment significantly improve organizational performance in the context of sterling bank in Delta State, Nigeria. The study recommends that the management of the bank should communicate employee driven shared values, empower employees through career development and ethical leadership. This will retain employees at work, enhance their productivity and bring about organizational performance.
