Abstract:
Globally, governments and financial institution around the world have been driving the principle of financial inclusion, which aims at getting financial services to the unbanked and the underserved population. The main purpose of this research is to explore on the transformative role of financial technology (fintech) in expanding access to financial services in Nigeria, while critically examining the regulatory and operational challenges that accompany its rapid growth. It was discovered that, fintech and financial inclusion offers benefits such as, highlighting the need for a more coherent, adaptive, and inclusive regulatory approach that encourages innovation without compromising systemic integrity or user protection. The study recommend that, government should establish a national fintech framework, the implementation of digital financial literacy campaigns, strengthening of consumer protection laws, and investment in rural digital infrastructure. Ultimately, this study contributes to the growing discourse on how Nigeria can balance fintech innovation with sound regulation to achieve broad-based financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable financial sector development.
