Abstract:
This study examined the relationship between principals' instructional time management and teachers' job performance in public secondary schools in Delta State. A correlational and descriptive ex-post facto research design was adopted to establish the relationship between the study variables without manipulating the independent variables. The study population comprised 15,219 respondents, which include 474 principals and 14,745 teachers in Delta State. secondary schools in Delta State. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 579 participants, consisting of 383 teachers and 196 principals from public secondary schools across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State. Data were collected using two structured questionnaires: The Principals' Instructional Time Management Rating Scale (PITMR) and the Teachers' Job Performance Rating Scale (TJPRS), which were validated by experts and tested for reliability, yielding Cronbach's alpha coefficients of 0.98 and 0.97, respectively. Using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation, the study topics were examined, and the hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 level of significance using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results showed that teachers' work performance in Delta State's public secondary schools and administrators' instructional time management were both very high. Teachers' job performance and principals' instructional time management, however, did not significantly correlate. The research reveals that while both administrators and teachers exhibit high levels of competence in their professions, the work performance of teachers is not directly impacted by the instructional time management of principals... It is recommended that school administrators sustain high levels of time management, provide continuous professional development for teachers, and explore other potential factors affecting teachers' job performance to enhance overall school effectiveness.
