Abstract:
The study investigated the influence of agricultural education welfare facilities on students' attitude towards agricultural education programmes in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State. To guide the study, three purposes and three research questions were raised and three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The targeted population for the study were all the 44 400 and 300 levels students in the Department of Agricultural Science Education, Faculty of Education, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. Since the targeted population of 44 was manageable, it was therefore adopted as the sample of the study. Hence, the sampling technique adopted for the study was the census sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was the "Influence of Agricultural Education Welfare Facilities on Students' Attitude towards Agricultural Education Programmes Questionnaire (IAEWFSAAEPQ)". The content and construct validity of the instrument was done by three experts. One from the Department of Agricultural Science Education and Two from the Test and Measurement unit in the Department of Counselling and Educational Psychology all from the Faculty of Education, Niger Delta University of Bayelsa State. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha method and a reliability index of 0.71 was obtained. The data collected were analysed using the statistical mean for the research questions. While the hypotheses were tested using the t-test analysis. The study found that accommodation and hostel and healthy and sustainable food as welfare facilities influence students' attitude towards agricultural education programmes in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State. Therefore, the study concludes and recommends that, accommodation and hostel as welfare facilities influence students' attitude towards agricultural education programmes in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State. As such, the government of Bayelsa State should build enough hostels to accommodate students in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State.
