Abstract:
The objective of the study is to examine the role of cooperatives in achieving gender equality in Nigeria state. The research design employed in this study is a survey. The target population for this study consists of all the 121,065 members of cooperative societies in Niger State. A sample size of 400 was obtained using Taro Yamane formula. The primary data for this study were collected using structured questionnaires. Simple regression analysis was applied as the inferential statistical method to test the hypothesis. The finding revealed that: membership of a cooperative society significantly enhances gender equality in Niger State (Coefficient = 0.6022; p-value = 0.000). It was recommended that the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development should encourage the expansion of cooperative society memberships among women in Niger State, ensuring that more women are provided with opportunities to benefit from the economic and social empowerment that cooperative societies offer.
