Abstract:
Background: Orientation programs are essential for integrating quality management concepts into lab settings. These trainings aim to ensure compliance with international standards such as ISO 15189 for medical laboratories by acquainting staff with the fundamental elements of quality systems, including policies, objectives, roles, and duties. Objective: The study aimed to assess the effect of quality orientation program on governmental quality manager's staff in kassala city, Sudan. Methods: A Quais experimental design was used in this study, orientation program about quality management and external proficiency test was done and structured quesionnair was used before and after orientation to a nine quality managers responsible for quality department in kassala governmental hospitals. Results: The study showed that after an orientation program, laboratory quality managers' comprehension and application of quality management and External Proficiency Testing (EPT) ideas significantly improved. While understanding of roles and duties improved from 66.7% to 75%, familiarity with quality policies went from 50% to 66.7%. Significant advancements were also demonstrated by regular participation in EPT training, adherence to equipment maintenance procedures, and confidence in personnel qualifications. Modest improvements were noted, nevertheless, in the use of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), data management, and uniformity of documentation. These results demonstrate how orientation programs improve laboratory quality while highlighting the necessity of focused follow-up training to fill in any gaps. Conclusion: Structured orientation programs increase laboratory quality manager's familiarity with regulations, roles, and testing reliability while also greatly improving their comprehension of quality management and EPT concepts. Even with noteworthy advancements, the necessity for focused follow-up training is highlighted by the meager improvements in data administration, documentation, and CAPA implementation. A strong culture of quality and continual professional development are necessary to sustain progress. In particular, in environments with limited resources, this study offers practical insights to improve laboratory quality.
