Abstract:
SHGs are non-political, democratic, and voluntary collective that ranges between ten and twenty individuals (primarily marginalized women) with universal interest to achieve social and economic goals through joint support, cooperative action, and shared resources. SHGs are non-political, democratic, and voluntary collective of 10 to 20 individuals (mainly marginalized women) with common interest to achieve social and economic goals through joint support, cooperative action, and shared resources. Although several studies are carried out at aggregate level, block level studies are found to be missing. Hence, the present study is an endeavour to evaluate the collision of SHGs on savings performance of the selected blocks in the district of East Midnapore, West Bengal. On the whole, we found noteworthy increase in average savings after joining SHGs in all the blocks selected in the study. Thus, it can be inferred that SHGs have significant positive impact on savings performance of the SHG members. In spite of few limitations, further study may be conducted by making a comparative study between different blocks/ regions/ sates in order to get deeper insights on the savings performance of SHGs.
