Abstract:
Examining the efficiency and efficacy of local government councils in the Nigerian state of Delta with regard to worker involvement was the objective of this study. Our first goal in conducting this study was to determine the relationship between transparency in personnel engagement processes, and local government service culture in Delta State, Nigeria. Our second objective was to ascertain the relationship between a competitive recruitment and personnel engagement process and service quality of local government councils in Delta State, Nigeria. The researchers adopted the New Public Management (NPM) theory for the study. The investigator opted for a descriptive survey approach for the investigation. A total of 386 individuals were chosen for the sample from a population of 110,55. A systematic questionnaire was used to collect primary data. The data was then displayed and examined using tables and percentages. To get the answers to our research questions, we utilised SPSS to do a Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient analysis and apply statistical weighting to the mean. The study found that there was no statistically significant correlation between openness in employee engagement practices and local government service culture in Nigeria's Delta State, according to the research. Nonetheless, competitive hiring procedures have a substantial impact on the service quality of LGCs. Based on the findings from the study, it was recommended that personnel engagement processes should be made transparent in order to reduce the incidents of favouritism and nepotism inherent in public sector recruitment processes. this will help to ensure that the right skills and competencies are attracted and engaged into the service of the local government.
