Abstract:
The Apprenticeship system is intended to make a significant contribution to entrepreneurial development throughout the nation, and in Anambra State specifically. However, considering the staggering unemployment rates in Nigeria, it is unclear how much of an impact this programme has had, hence necessitating this study to examine the effect apprenticeship system and entrepreneurial development in Anambra State. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the effect of skill progression, mentorship and entrepreneurial training on entrepreneurial development in Anambra State. The study adopted the survey research design. Data were primary in nature and collected through the use of Likert scale structured questionnaire to generate responses from the selected sample. Two hundred and seventy six (276) copies of the returned questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics to describe the pattern of data. The hypothesis was tested using pearson correlation approach and the hypothesis was tested at 5% level of significance. Findings from the study revealed apprenticeship system has significant effect of job creation in Anambra State; skill progression is significantly related to job creation in Anambra State (r = 0.862 and P-value = 0.000). , structured training is significantly related to entrepreneurial development in Anambra State (r = 0.904 and P-value = 0.000) and mentorship programmes is significantly related to entrepreneurial development in Anambra State (r = 0.906 and P-value = 0.000). The study concluded that apprenticeship system has significant effect of entrepreneurial development in Anambra State. the study recommended that government of Nigeria and African by extension should adopt the practice of face-to-face apprenticeship system and entrepreneurial development in Nigeria as a strategy for the development of the country's entrepreneurship and also businesses should deliberate openly how to create as well as provide mentoring for professionals, and a centrally organized mentoring program office should assist in these talks and activities
