Abstract:
This study examined social networking and the effective management of instruction among secondary school teachers in Delta State, Nigeria. Nine research questions were raised, and seven hypotheses were tested. The study adopted a correlational survey design using an ex-post-facto research approach. The population comprised 14,877 teachers in Delta State, while the sample consisted of 744 teachers from public secondary schools, selected through a multi-stage sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, validated, and tested for reliability using the test-retest method, which yielded reliability coefficients of 0.82 and 0.80. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) and the coefficient of determination (rē) were employed to answer the research questions. Hypothesis was tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant relationship between social networking sites and the effective management of instruction in Delta State public secondary schools. The study concluded that the level of instructional management in Delta State public secondary schools is high, and social networking plays a crucial role in enhancing instructional effectiveness. Based on these findings, it was recommended that secondary school teachers make appropriate use of social networking sites to enhance instructional management. Additionally, school administrators should organize workshops and seminars on the effective use of social networking platforms for instructional improvement. Regular training sessions should also be conducted to enhance teachers' professional skills in leveraging social media for instructional management.
