Abstract:
This work inquired into how strategic agility relates with organizational responsiveness of manufacturing firms in Rivers State, Nigeria. The inability of manufacturing firms to detect changes existing in the business environment, and adapt to alterations in the market by interacting with the outside world both proactively and reactively which represents a competitive marketing advantage to them is the problem that necessitated this research. As a consequence, this study advanced three questions and three hypotheses. A cross sectional survey design was adopted to study a population of 193 managers and supervisors of ten (10) manufacturing firms. A sample size of 130 employees was drawn from the population using Taro Yamene formula. Data were collected using copies of questionnaire which was personally administered to respondents. Strategic agility was operationalized using strategic insight, strategic flexibility and information technology capability. The Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient was used to analyze the data and determine the link between the dimensions of strategic agility and organizational responsiveness. Analytical findings showed that organizational responsiveness and strategic agility dimensions are significantly positively correlated. The study concluded that strategic agility in terms of strategic insight, strategic flexibility and information technology capability are essential factors in boosting the responsiveness of manufacturing firms. Among other things, it was suggested that manufacturing companies' managers should strategically agile so as to be responsive to alterations in the environment and gain competitive advantage to satisfy the market demand.
