Abstract:
This study investigates the influence of emotional intelligence on the job productivity of lecturers in public universities in Delta and Edo States, Nigeria. The research employed an ex-post facto research design using a descriptive survey method to collect data from 1,394 lecturers selected from both federal and state-owned institutions across the two states. The study aimed to examine the extent to which lecturers apply emotional intelligence in academic activities and the impact of emotional intelligence on their job productivity. Findings indicate that lecturers in both states apply emotional intelligence to a high extent, with no significant difference in the application between lecturers in Delta and Edo States. However, a significant difference was found in the influence of emotional intelligence on lecturers' job productivity, with lecturers in Edo State demonstrating a stronger positive impact. The results underscore the importance of emotional intelligence in enhancing lecturers' job performance, particularly in fostering better interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution. Based on these findings, the study recommends integrating emotional intelligence training into professional development programs, promoting supportive work environments, and adopting emotional intelligence metrics in academic management systems.
