Abstract:
The study examined the effect of ethical practices on public sector performance in Delta State. The study specifically accessed the effects of value system, transparency, accountability and integrity on public sector performance in Delta State. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprises staff of general hospital in Asaba metropolis, the researcher conveniently selected 200 respondents and 150 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and mean scores. The result of the findings reveals that value system has a significant effect on the public sector performance and accountability has a significant effect on the public sector performance. The results also revealed that the Transparency has a significant effect on the public sector performance and integrity has a significant effect on the public sector performance. In the light of the analysis carried out, the following conclusions were drawn on Value system, Transparency, Accountability and Integrity all has significant effect on the public sector performance.Therefore, the study recommended that enacting, improving and effectively enforcing legal instrument, code of conduct and regulations promoting ethics and performance. The study further recommended that Nigerian government should emphasize preventive and enforcement approach more than institutional approach in curbing ethical behaviour.
