Abstract:
The hydatid cyst of the psoas is an exceptional entity, even in endemic countries. The clinical polymorphism of this particular location of hydatid disease and the lack of specificity of the symptoms highlight the importance of radiologic investigations. We report the case of a patient in whom a voluminous psoas hydatid cyst was responsible for symptoms mimicking root damage: our patient complained of truncated sciatica. Lumbosacral and pelvic MRI corrected the diagnosis by showing a psoas hydatid cyst in the pelvic sections. Total pericystectomy via the extraperitoneal approach remains the treatment of choice. In our patient's case, it allowed the complete disappearance of the symptoms.
