Abstract:
: This study examines the influence of social media on the perception and dissemination of information during the conflict in Eastern DRC. It highlights their role in spreading conflict narratives and manipulating public opinion while also emphasizing their importance in documenting human rights violations and mobilizing for peace. However, these platforms also contribute to disinformation, social polarization, and radicalization. The study analyzes the actors involved, their use of social media, and the ethical challenges related to regulating information during wartime. Furthermore, the research explores the social, political, and international consequences of social media use in this conflict, particularly the impact of biased narratives on local and global perceptions. Through case studies, it demonstrates how these narratives influence inter-community tensions and political decisions. Finally, it underscores the need for stronger regulation of digital content to prevent disinformation and support peace and reconciliation in the region.
