Abstract:
This study aims to examine the preferences of Hindu devotees in performing the soul redemption ritual at Pura Dalem Kerangkeng, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency. The ritual is believed to be a spiritual means of releasing ancestral spirits that remain bound due to past negative karma, as well as an act of filial responsibility in guiding these spirits toward moksha. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with an ethnographic approach, involving in-depth interviews with informants who have experienced existential crises and turned to the ritual as a solution. The findings reveal that devotees choose Pura Dalem Kerangkeng because it is considered a sacred site with powerful metaphysical energy, believed to resolve various life problems such as chronic illness, economic hardship, family conflict, failed marriages, and psychological or social disturbances. This preference is further shaped by the devotees' direct spiritual experiences, trust in metaphysical guidance through nunas baos, and the temple's reputation as a center for karmic purification and spirit liberation. The study concludes that Pura Dalem Kerangkeng functions not only as a place of worship but also as a holistic healing space-spiritually, emotionally, and socially-for Hindu devotees from various regions.
