Abstract:
This study explores the perceived drawbacks of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) among selected beneficiaries in Barangays Mati and Poblacion, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. Using a quantitative, non-experimental, correlational-survey design, the study examines the challenges experienced by beneficiaries in relation to three key dimensions: dependency on the program, barriers to empowerment, and discrepancies in cash grants. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data from 100 purposively selected 4Ps recipients, and the results were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings reveal that while beneficiaries strongly agree that the program significantly supports their children's education and household needs, concerns persist regarding the risk of long-term dependency, stigma, and accessibility issues during grant disbursement. Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between gender and the perception of program drawbacks, suggesting the need for more gender-sensitive approaches. Meanwhile, income and grant amounts showed no significant correlation with perceived challenges. These insights highlight both the vital role of 4Ps and areas that require improvement to enhance the program's effectiveness and sustainability.
