Abstract:
This study addresses an important issue regarding the cultural identity of Generation Z in Banyuwangi, who face significant challenges in preserving cultural heritage amid rapid social change. Although various studies have discussed the cultural identity of young people, there is still a significant research gap regarding the preservation of local culture specifically in Banyuwangi. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the cultural preservation practices carried out by Generation Z and how they adapt to social changes. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews and participatory observation of ten respondents involved in cultural preservation. The main findings indicate that Generation Z actively uses social media to promote local culture, participates in cultural activities, and innovates traditions to keep them relevant. Despite facing challenges such as social pressure and resource constraints, the enthusiasm for preserving cultural identity remains strong. The implications of this study are to provide deeper insights into the dynamics of Generation Z's cultural identity in Banyuwangi and recommendations for developing cultural preservation policies relevant to the needs of young people. This study is expected to inspire further efforts in preserving local culture in the era of globalization.
