Abstract:
This article discusses the relationship between the shifting economic roles of women and domestic violence (DV) within the framework of power inequality in modern families. Women who are increasingly active in contributing to the family economy often face resistance from the patriarchal social structure that has not changed. In many cases, this change in role causes a crisis of masculinity in men, who feel their dominant role is threatened and then respond with violence as a form of power defense. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature studies by analyzing masculinity theory (Connell) and structural-cultural violence (Galtung), and is supported by secondary data from official institutional reports. The results of the study show that the increase in women's economic roles, without being followed by a transformation of cultural and institutional values, actually increases the potential for domestic violence. Therefore, the formation of equal household relations requires interventions that not only target economic aspects, but also social, cultural, and public policy transformations.
