Abstract:
This scientific article explores the etiological and pathogenetic factors contributing to dental caries, one of the most common chronic diseases affecting the global population. The study begins with a comprehensive review of the literature to highlight the key biological, behavioral, environmental, and microbiological elements that play a role in the development and progression of caries. It then analyzes various research findings using descriptive and analytical methods to identify the most significant risk factors. The role of Streptococcus mutans, dietary sugars, salivary dysfunction, genetic predispositions, and inadequate oral hygiene practices is thoroughly examined. Furthermore, modern diagnostic tools and preventive approaches, such as fluoride therapy, sealants, and patient education, are evaluated for their efficacy in caries control. The article also discusses the implications of recent research on developing targeted interventions and public health strategies to reduce the global burden of caries. The paper concludes with a critical discussion of the findings and suggests future directions for research in caries prevention and treatment. This article is intended for dental researchers, clinicians, and public health professionals seeking to enhance their understanding of caries etiology and improve clinical outcomes.
