Abstract:
This study investigates the use of social media for advancing fish farming in Delta State. It evaluates the impact of social media on fishing practices, profitability, and access to new techniques among local dwellers. Employing a quantitative survey method with 90 purposively selected farmers, the study analyzes data using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings indicate that social media significantly improves fishing practices and profitability, with WhatsApp being the most frequently used platform. The study recommends digital literacy training, improved access to technology, establishment of support networks, and leveraging social media for market expansion, integration of social media in government programmes, and continuous monitoring and evaluation to enhance the advancement of fishing activities in Delta State through the use of Social media.
