Abstract:
This research explores the significance of thorough teacher training as a critical approach to successfully implementing the agricultural education curriculum in the modern era. It delves into the definitions and roles of agricultural education, curriculum development, and curriculum execution. The paper outlines essential strategies for preparing teachers, which include continuous professional development, hiring educators with both academic and pedagogical qualifications, effective use of instructional materials, integration of ICT and e-learning, regular participation in seminars and workshops, consistent assessment of student outcomes, application of innovative teaching strategies, collaborative teaching methods, strong administrative practices, and adequate compensation to boost teacher motivation. In addition, the study identifies several barriers to successful curriculum delivery, such as lack of instructional materials, poor funding, weak evaluation systems, low teacher morale, reluctance to attend capacity-building events, insufficient in-service training, and ineffective implementation of modern instructional methods. The research concludes with the assertion that Nigeria must provide the necessary support to ensure the agricultural curriculum is implemented effectively. Among the key recommendations are the establishment of clear policies on teacher preparation and improved incentives for educators, particularly in terms of fair remuneration.
