Abstract:
This study aims to identify the components of human capital-specifically, training, experience, education, and skills-that enhance access to online freelancing opportunities, a growing employment avenue in the Gaza Strip where traditional job markets are constrained. Utilizing a descriptive analytical approach, the study combines survey data and in-depth interviews from a sample of 375 employees working in remote work companies and technology incubators. The findings reveal a strong positive correlation between human capital factors and access to online freelancing opportunities. Moreover, human capital is shown to significantly impact the creation of online freelancing jobs, with information technology playing a mediating role in strengthening the relationship between human capital and online freelancing success. Based on these insights, the study recommends that governmental bodies consider the freelancing model as a viable strategy to alleviate unemployment in Palestinian regions and similar contexts facing employment barriers.
