Abstract:
This study examines the evolving role of border trade in Vietnam-China economic relations, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. While bilateral trade has expanded rapidly in the past two decades, the pandemic revealed critical vulnerabilities in cross-border logistics, agricultural export channels, and local trade facilitation mechanisms. Using a mixed-methods approach combining panel data across key northern provinces and qualitative policy analysis, this research identifies the structural transformations, constraints, and emerging strategic opportunities in Vietnam's border trade with China. Findings highlight the urgent need to modernize logistics, digitalize customs procedures, and strengthen local governance to ensure the resilience and sustainability of border commerce. Policy implications are provided for enhancing subnational trade diplomacy and unlocking the full potential of cross-border economic zones.
