Abstract:
Natural Language Processing (NLP) has emerged as a powerful component in modern knowledge-based systems, especially within the medical domain. By enabling machines to interpret and process human language, NLP facilitates efficient information retrieval, decision support, and automatic diagnosis. This paper explores the integration of NLP techniques into expert systems for disease diagnosis, focusing on knowledge acquisition, representation, and reasoning. Through a simulated medical case study, we demonstrate how NLP-driven expert systems can analyze patient symptoms described in natural language and match them with structured medical knowledge to produce diagnostic suggestions. The results reveal the potential of combining rule-based reasoning with linguistic analysis to enhance the accuracy and accessibility of expert systems.
