Abstract:
This study focused on the factors influencing sustainable peace between Gucha south and Transmara. The specific objective was to examine the impact of cattle rustling on the sustainability of peace along Gucha south and Transmara border. The study used descriptive research design. Primary data was collected using questionnaires. Stratified and simple random sampling was used to select a sample for the study of 200 respondents. Collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study established that, Cattle rustling had a strong, positive and significant relationship with sustainability of peace along the border of Gucha south and Transmara, Thus, increase in Cattle rustling led to a significant increase in peace deterioration along the border of Gucha south and Transmara. The study further, identified that cattle rustling, had a negative and significant effect of peace sustainability along the border. Taking other factors to be constant at zero, cattle rustling led to 51.5% change in peace sustainability along the border. Further, the study noted, change in cattle rustling led to 48% decline in peace sustainability along the border. The study concluded that, Cattle rustling had a strong, positive and significant relationship with sustainability of peace along the border of Gucha south and Transmara . Thus, increase in Cattle rustling led to a significant increase in peace deterioration along the border of Gucha south and Transmara. The study further, concluded that cattle rustling, had a negative and significant effect of peace sustainability along the border. Taking other factors to be constant at zero, cattle rustling led to 51.5% change in peace sustainability along the border. Further, the study noted, change in cattle rustling led to 48% decline in peace sustainability along the border. The study recommended that, the government should put more efforts in setting up technical schools in the region so that young people can be equipped with skills that can enable generate income other than depending solely on cattle. Further, the government to create awareness through sports and other activities that increase community cohesion. Additionally, the study recommended that the government should develop the area to attract investors. This would provide employment to the locals.
