Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine educational challenges and modifications needed for teaching students with intellectual disability in special classroom at Barta primary school. In this study researcher used descriptive qualitative method design to accomplish the aim of the study. These are an interview, and observation in purposefully selected school. An interview was developed as data collection instrument in the survey. Non-probability purposive sampling was used to select two special needs teachers and one school principal. The data obtained by interview was presented and analysed qualitatively in terms of categories and sub-categories. Findings of the study showed that students with intellectual disabilities in Barta primary school had many educational challenges. Teachers in this study expressed the need for reduced class sizes, modern teaching materials, motivations to teachers, and additional support services from the government. Based on the findings, recommendations were made for improving the situation of students with intellectual disabilities in Barta primary school. The recommendations are directed to specialized training facilities, Resources; (human and material resources), Special needs education teachers and Future researchers.
