Abstract:
The study examined information and communication technology practices and challenges in preschool learning activities of pupils in public schools in Lagos State. The population of this study comprised all preschool educators and parents in the Ojo and Alimosho Local Government Areas of Lagos State. The sample of the study was made up of 240 respondents. The multistage sampling technique was used for the study. The simple random sampling technique was used to select 10 primary schools in each of the selected LGEAs to make 20 schools in total. The purposive sampling technique was used to select 12 educators and 12 parents each in the selected schools to make a total of 240 respondents. Two self-designed instruments were used for the study titled "Educators' Adoption of Information and Communication Technology Preschool Stimulations (EA_ICTPS) and Parents' Perception of ICT Children Stimulation for Preschool Children (PP_ICTCSPC)." The test-retest method was adopted to check the internal consistency of the instruments using the Cronbach alpha technique, and reliability coefficients of 0.76 and 0.81 were obtained, respectively. The findings show that there is a significant positive relationship between parents' and educators' knowledge of ICT in stimulating preschool pupils' learning activities in Lagos State. Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made: teachers should help to create opportunities for young children to understand and appreciate the benefits of visual images and graphics in knowledge, which are part of their everyday experiences; the educational resource centers should join hands with state Ministries of Education to create awareness about ICT and its usefulness to the teachers.
