Title: Impacts of Computer Structured Games on Students Skills Acquisition in Public Universities in Nigeria

Abstract:
This paper determined impacts of computer structured games on student's skills acquisition in public universities in Nigeria. Descriptive research survey design was adopted for this study. Imo state University Owerri is among the universities in Nigeria therefore, Imo State University is chosen to represent entire universities in Nigeria. One research question guided this study. Population of this study is 6,000 which comprised 250 males and 350 female students in Imo State University Owerri. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 100 male students from Social science Education. In the same vein, 86 female students from Faculty of Administration Imo State University Owerri were chosen. These gave a sample size of 186 students. Researcher developed questionnaire titled "impacts of computer structured games on students skills acquisition in public universities in Nigeria" was used, with four rating scales of strongly agree, agree, dis agree and strongly disagree. The instrument was validated by two specialists in Business Education, Madonna University Nigeria, Okija campus, Anambra State. Cronbach alpha statistics was used to determine the reliability coefficient of this study at 0.78 and 0.97, which shows that the instrument was reliable for use in this study. The instrument was administered to students with the help of two research assistants. Student's responses were collected and analyzed using mean scores. Findings of this study revealed that students are constratined to make effective use of computer structured games for games and learning due to frequent power outages, inability of students to acquire ICT facilities and techno phobia among students. It was recommended from this study that government should provide adequate modern instructional materials such as lap tops, desk tops, pam tops for effective delivery of instructions in public universities in Nigeria. These would enable Nigerian students develop more skills on effective use of modern technological learning facilities in public universities in Nigeria.
