Abstract:
Cyberattacks exploiting network vulnerabilities, such as those facilitated by the framework Metasploit , represent a growing threat in 2025, with a 10% increase in weaponized vulnerabilities ( Recorded Future, 2025). This study explores the mechanisms of cyberattacks, focusing on Metasploit exploits such as EternalBlue (MS17-010), their economic impacts (10.5 billion USD/year), and their technical implications. Through simulated tests in a controlled environment, we analyze the attack stages: reconnaissance, exploitation, and post-exploitation. We propose network partitioning as a mitigation solution, limiting the lateral propagation of threats. Our results show that segmentation reduces unauthorized access by 80% in Meterpreter -like scenarios . Drawing on academic and industrial sources, this article aims to educate professionals on proactive defenses, while respecting research ethics.
