Abstract:
Notwithstanding the growing importance of sound recruitment and selection practices in today's business world, here remains a dearth of scholarly inquiry into the fundamental mechanisms that elucidate the relationship between recruitment and selection and organizational performance, particularly within banking sector. This study made use of primary data source to create a descriptive framework. Participants in this research were employees of selected deposit money banks in South-South, Nigeria, and a total of 176 employees of selected Deposit money banks in South-South Nigeria, using a simple random sample sampling method. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from the sampled respondents. Analysis of descriptive statistics was conducted using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation. Analysis of inferential statistics was performed through bivariate correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis to confirm if indeed there was a relationship between the research variables. Results of bivariate correlation analysis showed that cultural outfit as a strong positive linear relationship to performance. Similarly, regression analysis demonstrated that dimensions of recruitment and selection adopted in this study are statistically significant at ninety five percent level of confidence (.005 level of significance); work experience, educational background and cultural outfit to a constant zero, organizational performance of selected deposit money banks in South-South Nigeria would stand at 1.573. A unit increase in Work experience would lead to increase in organizational performance .509, unit increase in education of employee would lead to increase in organizational performance by a factor of 3.103, a unit increase in cultural outfit would lead to increase in organizational performance a factor of 1.483. At 5% level of significance and 95% level of confidence, work experience had a 0. 034 level of significance; education of employee showed a 0.041 level of significance culturaloutfit had a 0.030 level of significance while work experience showed 0.41 level of significance, hence the most significant factor is Work experience. Overall Work experience had the greatest effect on the organizational performance All the variables were significant (p<0.005).The study concluded that recruitment and selection have significant effect on organizational performance of selected deposit money banks in South-South Nigeria. The study recommends that banks through governance, Justice, law and order office initiate the use of social media platform, and short text messaging services to enable employees report any form of misconduct as soon as possible for prompt action and also any form of corrupt practices as soon as it is reported using the aforementioned communication channels.
