Abstract:
The study investigates the correlation between internalisation strategy and corporate risk of oil and gas companies in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study conducted a sample of seven oil and gas companies in Rivers State. The study aimed to tackle the issue of corporate risk through one purpose, four objectives, four research questions, and four hypotheses. The market entry strategy was implemented, utilising internalisation strategy aspects, while operational risk and financial risk served as the firm's risk metrics. Management expertise was utilised to oversee the interplay among the factors. The study population comprised 186 managers and supervisors from the selected organisations. A census survey was conducted, and 175 useable questionnaires were analysed. A structured questionnaire was employed to gather primary data. Descriptive and inferential statistical measures were utilised. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was employed to test hypothetical propositions. The results indicate a substantial correlation between business risk and internalisation approach, with management competency serving as a strong moderating factor in this relationship. The report advocates for oil and gas companies to implement strategic internalisation approaches and enhance managerial competencies to effectively mitigate financial and operational risks.
