Abstract:
The constraints of rural farmers in effective communication of agricultural messages were examined. Six (6) Extension Blocks and five (5) Cells each were selected respectively from the selected Extension Blocks. Four(4) farmers were selected from each the Cells making a total of one hundred and twenty (120) farmers. Data were collected through the use of a well structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed with statistical tools such as simple percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression. The result shows that majority of the respondents were married (68.4%), majority of the respondents were female (63.3%). majority of the respondents were between the age bracket of 21and 30 years (64.4%). The result shows that group contact method (79.2%), individual contact method with (69.2%) and radio (68.3%) respectively were the major means of communicating Agricultural Messages to farmers. The result revealed that poor education of farmers(x=3.20), inadequate extension visit(x=3.13), poor network services(x=3.35),poor attitude of farmers towards ICT tools(x=3.05), insufficient power supply(x=3.44) and poor/low internet connection(x=3.11) were the major constraints faced by rural farmers in effective communication of agricultural messages in the study area. It was recommended among others that extension services should be provided to the farmers to enlighten them on recent innovations/idea in agriculture.
