Abstract:
Digital transformation has emerged as a critical strategic driver for organizations operating in complex and resource-constrained environments, particularly within the humanitarian sector. Jordanian humanitarian organizations face increasing pressure to enhance organizational performance while responding effectively to growing humanitarian demands and limited resources. Despite the growing adoption of digital technologies, empirical evidence on how digital transformation influences organizational performance in humanitarian contexts remains limited. Accordingly, this study examines the impact of digital transformation on organizational performance in Jordanian humanitarian organizations, with a particular focus on the mediating role of operational efficiency. A quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to employees and managers working in humanitarian organizations operating in Jordan. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results reveal that digital transformation has a positive and significant effect on operational efficiency and organizational performance. Furthermore, operational efficiency was found to have a significant positive effect on organizational performance. The mediation analysis confirms that operational efficiency partially mediates the relationship between digital transformation and organizational performance. The findings contribute to the literature by providing empirical evidence from a developing-country humanitarian context and by highlighting operational efficiency as a key mechanism through which digital transformation enhances organizational performance. Practically, the study offers valuable insights for managers and policymakers regarding the importance of aligning digital transformation initiatives with operational process improvements to achieve sustainable performance outcomes in humanitarian organizations.
