Abstract:
Graduate tracking systems (GTS) are essential digital tools for higher education institutions (HEIs) to monitor graduates career progression, assess employability outcomes, distribute professional opportunities and manage lifelong engagement through features like membership subscriptions. This review synthesizes literature on GTS design, implementation and impact, with a focus on challenges in Sub Saharan Africa, particularly Tanzania. Drawing from systematic reviews, tracer studies and case analyses, it highlights trends toward computerization, hybrid survey digital models and centralized platforms. Persistent problems include manual record keeping leading to data inaccuracies, low graduates engagement and limited opportunity access, as evident in institutions like Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU). The review identifies gaps in African adoption due to resource constraints and proposes agile, web based solutions. Key observations show that effective GTS can improve data accuracy and enhance employability tracking. It concludes that tailored digital systems can transform institutional planning and graduate outcomes in Tanzania, recommending AI integration and regional collaborations for future advancements.
