Abstract:
: This study examines the effect of community awareness and peacebuilding outcomes in Gubadley District, Badir Region. Somalia has been plagued by long-term instability since the downfall of the central government in 1991, and the local districts are still grappling with the problems associated with clan feuds, displacement, and poor institutional capacity. Data was gathered based on a descriptive research design where 70 respondents were surveyed, who comprised traditional elders, women representatives, youth leaders, and members of the civil society organizations. Semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions were carried out and analyzed with the help of SPSS. As the results show, community awareness plays an important role in peacebuilding by increasing the coordination of customary and formal mediation systems, encouraging young people to participate in constructive dialogue, empowering women with a role in the prevention of domestic and communal conflicts, and building trust through the use of a civil society-based dialogue platform. The paper finds that the more the community is aware, the more it leads to social cohesion, preventive conflicts and long-term local peace. Establishing awareness programs that are inclusive is thus important in ensuring the long-term stability in the Gubadley District.
