Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the evolution of water access research through the lenses of socioeconomic factors, affordability, and service levels using a bibliometric approach based on Scopus data. The research is driven by the limited integration of these three dimensions and the lack of a systematic mapping of the structure of the water access literature. Data were retrieved using the search query ("socioeconomic" OR "affordability" OR "service level") AND "water access" and screened following the PRISMA framework, resulting in 40 documents for analysis via VOSviewer using the co-occurrence method. The findings indicate a significant increase in publications during the 2021-2025 period, forming three primary clusters: water management and policy, socioeconomic and demographic factors, and household conditions. Current research remains dominated by technical perspectives, while aspects such as water insecurity and social inequality remain relatively under-explored. These findings underscore that water access is a multidimensional phenomenon necessitating an integrative approach in both academic research and water management policy.
