Abstract:
Waterborne diseases, specifically cholera and typhoid, remain significant global health threats, particularly in regions with inadequate sanitation and aging water infrastructure. Traditional laboratory-based water testing is often slow, preventing timely intervention during an outbreak. This review examines recent advancements in real-time smart water quality monitoring systems (SWQMS) that leverage the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to mitigate these risks. By monitoring physicochemical parameters such as pH, turbidity, temperature, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), these systems can provide early warnings of contamination.
